Global Art Market Sees 4% Growth with Key Trends Emerging in 2026

The global art market expanded by 4% in 2026, reaching an estimated USD 59.6 billion, driven by notable increases in auction sales and shifts in regional market shares.

The global art market experienced a 4% growth year-on-year in 2026, reaching an estimated value of USD 59.6 billion after two challenging years. This growth was highlighted in the Art Basel and UBS Global Art Market Report 2026, which identified seven key trends shaping the market's recalibration.

Public auction sales showed the most significant increase, rising by 9% to USD 20.7 billion. This uplift was largely driven by several record prices at the high end of the market, reflecting strong demand for premium artworks.

Regionally, the United States maintained its position as the leading art market worldwide, accounting for 44% of global sales by value, marking a 1% increase compared to the previous year. China remained the third-largest market with a 14% share, primarily led by auction sales within the largely domestically focused Mainland China market.

France, the fourth-largest art market globally and the largest within the European Union, also saw growth, increasing its share by 1% to 8%. This reflects a steady expansion in the European art sector.

Growth in the market was driven equally by overseas and local events. Mid-sized dealers showed the largest increases in their share of art fair sales, indicating a shift in market dynamics towards more diverse participation.

Combined public and private sales at auction houses rose by 6% to USD 24.8 billion, while the dealer sector grew by 2% globally to an estimated USD 34.8 billion. These figures underline a broad-based recovery and recalibration across different segments of the art market.

Overall, the report highlights a cautiously optimistic outlook for the global art market as it adapts to new trends and regional shifts in 2026.
