On 9 September 2026, the Arts Council of Wales reopened its Major Productions Fund, inviting arts organisations to submit proposals for significant new projects. The fund is designed to support initiatives that go beyond an organisation’s regular programme, requiring applicants to demonstrate a clear increase in ambition and scale compared to their usual activities.
To be eligible, applicants must ensure that at least 25% of their project income comes from sources other than the Arts Council or the National Lottery, with no more than 10% of this from in-kind contributions. The total budget available for this round is £600,000, making the fund highly competitive.
Proposals may also explore international and cross-border impacts, provided there is a clear rationale and evidence of demand that demonstrates added and longer-term value for the arts sector in Wales. Multi Year Funded Organisations are expected to exclude elements of their core activities from funding requests, focusing instead on projects that enhance and complement their existing work.
Before submitting a full application, organisations must contact the Arts Council grants team to confirm eligibility. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to present their projects or provide further clarifications on specific aspects.
The deadline for applications is 18 November 2026 at 13:00. The Arts Council provides information in accessible formats such as large print, braille, audio, Easy Read, and British Sign Language, and can offer materials in other languages upon request.
This reopening offers Welsh arts organisations a significant opportunity to secure funding for ambitious productions that can have a lasting impact both within Wales and internationally.
